Frock by Friday (finally!) and other tidbits

Finally, here is my completely Frock-by-Friday! I've actually had it done for a few weeks, but finally decided to wear it today. It's actually perfect for summer! I ended up modifying it a little bit--I lengthened the ruffle to extend all the way down the bodice, and the hem was way, way too short, so I added a second skirt beneath the first to lengthen it. There was definitely a learning curve--I forgot to cut seam allowances, and had to adjust accordingly as I went along. I did end up making a second one out of different fabric, as long as I had the drill down, but who knows when I'll get a picture of that :) Over at Grosgrain, she's doing another Frock-by-Friday this week, a button-down shirt-dress. Very fun! I'll be doing it again, but we have a crazy week and weekend, so it might make me longer than the given week.

And, yes, you did notice something on my nose. Maybe you didn't. But I'll show you a little closer:

I went all hippie this weekend and got my nose pierced! What's the fun of living in crunchy, washed-up-hippie-land Bloomington if you don't pierce something?? It's also Biblical! So that was part of our anniversary date last Saturday night. Pretty fun! And yes, it is blue. And yes, for a certain sister who might be worried about her wedding pictures, I can put a clear plastic stud in if you want me to :)

Happy Anniversary to us!

8 years today! 8 years and 4 kids--not too shabby, eh?

Haircuts for the girls

Today was haircut day. I cut their hair myself, mostly because I swore I would after receiving a very mediocre haircut with Ellie when she was 2. I mean, seriously, how do you mess up a 2-year old's hair? This lady did. So ever since, I've been doing it myself, usually with help from some online tutorial. I figure, with three girls, I'll eventually figure it out, right?

I was very pleased with the way Ellie's turned out. Her hair is so, so thin, that I think short haircuts look better on her. And, I'm a sucker for short haircuts. Those of you who knew me in high school and college can attest to that. It wasn't quite what I had envisioned, but with a squirming 4-year-old standing naked in the tub trying to escape, I was happy with what I got. Generally even, no obvious missing chunks:

Laura's turned out well, too, though she wasn't willing to ham it up for the camera in quite the same way as Ellie :) I'm trying to grow her bangs out, a little at a time. So when I trim her bangs, I trim fewer and fewer of them, and pull the long ones back with a clip. It works pretty well, until she pulls the clip out.

But the true test is Dad's opinion when he gets home! We hope he likes them!

The Littlest Gardener

My favorite part is how she's not much taller than the garden shovel!
